Education, maturity and innocence of the child

wild childSomeone asked: Dear Dadrim, you might say something about maturity, about being adult and responsible? I just had a baby and I'm doing a lot of questions!

Dadrim replied: Observing the growth of an individual, from childhood until the so-called maturity, we can notice, in almost all cases, as during this time something happens, a sort of abnormal mutation of the way of thinking and reacting to the events of life ... The innocence turns into cunning, the serenity into concern, the game into seriousness, the discovery of the new in fear of the unknown, and much more. Such a radical transformation can not exempt us from the need of understanding the causes and multi-faceted consequences. From my point of view the gap that separates adults from children is not the product of a progressive increase in the complexity and often dramatic character of social phenomena, nor the result of the accumulation of experience.

What determines the "death" of the child and enables the birth of what is erroneously called "adult", is the brainwashing to which we subject every day the new generations, and to which we ourselves have been subjected.

In my humble opinion, maturity is something that our society has not yet reached, and what hinders most the achievement is more precisely the arrogance with which we persist in thinking that we are the form and measure of all things. This senseless arrogance allows us to comfortably sit on our seats to pontificate and legislate, unaware that the only person whom we can learn to govern is just ourselves. This forgetfulness of itself produces a total inability to respond in a lucid, sensible and sensitive way to the challenges that life constantly presents us. (...)
